TLC COLLECTS OLD LAMPS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

TLC Lighting continues to implement the program of exchanging old lights for new ones, towards the goal of environmental protection, from November 10 to December 31.

Previously, the unit collected more than 250,000 old light bulbs in 2020 after three months of implementation. According to TLC, this corresponds to about 37.5 tons of solid waste.

This year, the program "TLC Genie - Exchange old for new" will take place nationwide with more than 4,000 companion agents. To participate, users only need to bring old, broken, distorted, and even broken lamp products of all brands on the market (except incandescent) to the nearest TLC Lighting dealer. For each old or broken product, users will be supported to buy a new one at the listed price (only from 10,000 VND) applied to the following products: OS 6W Round Doll, 20W DOS Cylinder, 20W Glass Tube, Oval Tube 42W. All products in the program still apply the 24-30 month replacement warranty policy as prescribed.

Talking about the reason for implementing the program, a representative of TLC Lighting said: "This is a program that demonstrates social responsibility, the mission of the business towards protecting the living environment from the impact of waste from projector lamps. This also creates favorable conditions for consumers to access quality lighting products at more reasonable prices."

According to research, a fluorescent tube can contain 6-46 mg of mercury, depending on size, and manufacturing technology. In some advanced countries and countries of the European Union, the mercury content of each tube fluorescent lamp is currently limited to a common level of 10-15 mg. Each compact light bulb contains about 5 mg of mercury.
In the event these bulbs are still in good working order, the amount of mercury inside is still under control. However, when fluorescent and compact bulbs are damaged, they will become a hazard to the environment and human health. Notably, when a light bulb is broken, the mercury inside will be released directly into the air, underground, and even domestic water.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), exposure to low levels of mercury (less than 5 mg) can cause tremors, personality changes, insomnia, muscle fatigue, and fatigue. headache. If exposure in high doses or long-term exposure can lead to cretinism, personality changes, deafness, memory loss, and even damage to nerve cells and the brain.
