MARKETS HA TINH PROVINCE 'TRANSFER' WASTE INTO MICROBIAL FERTILIZER

The treatment of waste generated from trading activities at local markets to ensure the environment always causes localities in Ha Tinh to have a "headache". The effective model of "Composting from waste" will be the "solution" to this dilemma
MARKETS HA TINH PROVINCE 'TRANSFER' WASTE INTO MICROBIAL FERTILIZER

Located in the center of the commune, with favorable traffic conditions, Cau market (Cam Loc commune, Cam Xuyen district) always has a large number of small traders and people participating in buying, selling, and consuming many kinds of goods. Busy trading activities in this residential market make the amount of waste generated every day quite largely.

According to calculations, on average, each day, Cau Market Management Board has to collect over 200 kg of waste of all kinds. Waste at the market is usually collected, gathered, and then transported to the village's centralized landfill for treatment. Although there have been many efforts in garbage collection, with a large amount of garbage generated, at times, the garbage is stuck, backlog causing environmental pollution at Cau market.

At the beginning of March 2022, the Women's Union of Cam Xuyen district in collaboration with Cam Loc commune authorities carried out the construction of a model of "Microbiological composting from waste" right behind Cau market (including 2 pits) Composting with an area of 15 m2 with an investment of 15 million VND) to handle the generated waste.

After being sorted, organic waste such as leaves, vegetables, tubers, fruits, leftovers, and fruits, etc. will be put into the compost pit. Each layer of garbage will be composted with a layer of biological products and covered with a tight lid. After 45 days, it will turn into manure. Microbiological fertilizers were sold by the Women's Union of Cam Loc commune to local people to raise funds to help poor women and children in the area.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Sinh - a member of the Management Board of Cau Market (Cam Loc commune) said: Although it has not been put into operation for a long time, the model "Microbiological composting from waste" has shown positive signals because organic waste. are collected and treated promptly, ensuring the environment and; at the same time, reducing transportation costs when all waste is treated on the spot, instead of having to be brought to a centralized treatment site.

From the effectiveness of the model "Composting from waste" at Cau market (Cam Loc commune), the Women's Union of Cam Xuyen district has coordinated with local authorities to replicate this model in 5 markets in the communes. : Cam Vinh, Cam Trung, Cam Lac, Cam Thinh...

Mr. Le Van Binh - a member of the Xep market management board (Cam Vinh commune, Cam Xuyen district) said: 4 months ago, the locality supported 30 million to build 3 composting pits from waste at Xep market. With these 3 composting pits, not only can we handle organic waste arising from the market's trading activities, but also support some neighboring families to treat garbage after sorting.

As one of the localities that strive to achieve the model new rural standard in 2022, the environmental criteria are focused on by Cam Vinh commune. Efficiency from the model of "Composting from waste" at Xep market contributes to effectively dealing with the waste problem, building a cleaner, more beautiful countryside with a fresh environment.

Chairman of the Women's Union of Cam Xuyen district, Tran Thi Thanh Lien, said: Since the model of "Composting from waste" was implemented, small traders and people buying and selling in markets in the area have become more conscious of their actions. segregation and treatment of waste.

Along with that, microbial organic fertilizers help increase crop yield by 20-50%, limit pests and diseases, improve soil well, and increase porosity and fertility for the soil better than chemical fertilizers. so it's very popular with people

In addition to Cam Xuyen district, the treatment of organic waste into micro-organisms at residential markets is also actively implemented by other localities in Ha Tinh.

Among these is the Hom market in Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district. The market has nearly 200 stalls doing business and trading, mainly foods, vegetables, and fruits... Therefore, every day, the amount of waste, especially organic waste, is quite large with a large volume. from 200 to 250 kg.

To handle the amount of waste generated at the Hom market, the Women's Union of Duc Tho district cooperated with the market management board to develop a model of "Microbiological composting from waste" when building 4 pits (3 holes for organic waste treatment). and 1 collection pit for non-biodegradable waste) with a lid and a solid roof.

Since coming into operation in August 2021, the model of "Composting from waste" at Hom market has not only reduced the amount of waste generated into the environment but also created 5 tons of fertilizer, providing for households wishing to plant trees in the area.

To encourage localities to replicate the model of "Composting from waste", the People's Council of Duc Tho district has issued a mechanism to support the construction of waste treatment pits at residential markets with each treatment point being 15 million VND funding.

With the effectiveness of the model and the timely support of the authorities, up to now, in addition to the Hom market in Thanh Binh Thinh commune, there have been 6 more markets for people living in Bui La Nhan communes and Duc Tho town.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial Women's Union Nguyen Thi Quyen said: Faced with the increasing situation of domestic waste, which puts pressure on the collection, transportation, and treatment of localities, the efficiency from the model "Micro-composting is effective. generated from waste" at 11 local markets in 2 districts of Cam Xuyen and Duc Tho has reduced up to 90% of waste generated into the environment, raised people's awareness, and made an important contribution to strengthening and improving the quality of life. high environmental standards in new rural construction.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen, through the initial success at people's markets in Cam Xuyen, Duc Tho, the Provincial Women's Union is encouraging localities to replicate the model throughout the province.
